Sydney Sweeney is so washed. She will get work because she’s got a name but I think she’s only gonna land low budget streaming features. Obviously there’s a lot of factors at play across all 5 of these movies but she’s been a trendy, controversial figure for a few years now, pioneered by the right as some icon of anti-woke womanhood (lol) while previously a sexy darling of the art community due to her work in Euphoria (even if it’s cringy), so she definitely was primed to soft launch a career.
Christy currently has no consistently reported budget but estimates set it between $15 – $30mill (wild difference tbh). Even so, it’s a flop. Additionally, her persona doesnt match the subject matter of the biopic. The kind of people she is catering to right now (christo-right) doesn’t care about the film’s subject matter: anti-patriarchal DV tale featuring a lesbian. Her casting is practically cultural appropriation lol. Christy joins the ranks of “worst domestic openings of all time” list.

Immaculate is the only standout success that could overtly be tied to her name, although this 2024 release was basically the tail-end of the “good for her”/emancipated-girl-covered-in-blood horror trend, so it got in line just in time to enjoy the wave. Also, horror is the most reliable genre for profiting at the box office right now. Sweeney may have had pull (and at the time of release was celebrated as part of the film’s success) but there’s so many factors here that help the film out.

Anyone But You is the astronomical standout, although Glenn Powell’s inclusion could have been a massive plus here. This one could also be attributed to her as romantic comedies typically don’t make THAT kind of money.

If anything, Sweeney is trying to find her niche, but she’s most successful in what she’s likely least interested in: romantic comedies. She’s pursued a myriad of projects but none of them stick and her IRL persona is not only inconsistent but wildly irresponsible. It’s not hard to denounce white supremacy. I can do it right now. “I, Melvin Benson, denounce white supremacy.”.
And I mean it, too! But as of right now she’s barking up a tree filled with people who literally think Hollywood is a cabal of Jewish, child-abusing cannibals. So idk what her KPIs are for her brand but she’s failing miserably. Curtains for Sydney tbh.
